Sach Pass is the holy grail for extreme motorists in India. Located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas, it connects Chamba Valley with the remote Pangi Valley of Himachal Pradesh. Reaching an altitude of 4,420 meters, this pass features a road carved out of vertical cliffs, under roaring waterfalls, and between massive snow walls that remain through summer.

Meet in Pathankot. Get assigned your machine (Himalayan 450 / 4x4 SUV) and run basic mechanics checks. Drive 120km through pine forests to the heritage town of Chamba. Overnight stay in hotel.
Drive 90km along the roaring Ravi River. Climb up the narrow valley paths to Bairagarh. This is the last checkpost before the pass ascent. Enjoy a final prep briefing and rest. Overnight in a rustic mountain lodge.
The core peak day. Set off at 5 AM. Face vertical gravel curves, ice walls, and cold water crossings. Cross the pass summit (4,420m) and pray at the mountaintop temple. Descend into the deep gorges of Pangi Valley, arriving in Killar. Overnight in a basic guest house.
Drive the legendary "Cliffhanger Road" along the wild Chenab river. Traverse sheer ledge cliffs with drops of hundreds of feet. Arrive in Udaipur in the afternoon and visit the 10th-century Mrikula Devi temple. Overnight in a local lodge.
Drive through Keylong and enter the Chandra Valley. Cross the world-record Atal Tunnel (9.02km) under the Rohtang Pass. Descend into the apple-growing valley of Manali. Overnight stay in a luxury hotel.
A relaxed day to explore Old Manali's cafe culture or ride up to Solang Valley. Conduct thorough vehicle checks and servicing after the demanding pass crossings. Group celebration dinner in the evening.
Scenic 220km highway cruise winding past Mandi and Palampur tea gardens, arriving in the spiritual town of Dharamshala. Overnight stay in hotel.
Short morning drive to Pathankot. Conclude the extreme Sach Pass expedition. Hand over keys and proceed to onward journeys.
CRITICAL: Sach Pass is only open from late June/July to early October depending on snow levels. The route features active waterfalls falling onto the tracks and glacial crossings. Dual-sport tires, high ground-clearance guards, spare clutch/brake levers, and basic mechanical knowledge are highly recommended. Our support utility truck carries tools, spare tires, fuel, and medical gear.
