This drive winds through deep pine forests, along the roaring Gori Ganga river, and past ancient ghost villages. Combining high-altitude border road driving with short, scenic exploration walks, it offers unmatched isolation and rugged beauty. Meet in Haldwani. Scenic mountain drive climbing winding roads past Bhimtal and Almora. As you arrive in Chaukori, witness breathtaking sunset views of the Nanda Devi and Panchachuli peaks. Overnight stay in a local lodge.
Drive along the scenic Gori Ganga valley, entering the remote Johar Valley region. The route features narrow roads and stunning cliff views as you ascend to Munsiyari. Overnight stay at Munsiyari.

Johar Valley features narrow mountain roads, dirt patches, gravel, and stream crossings. Drivers must navigate sheer drops and steep gradients. Weather dependency is high; landslides can alter route accessibility, requiring a high-clearance SUV or 4x4.

Because the Milam region borders the international frontier, Inner Line Permits are required. SereneTrails manages the entire SDM permit clearance process. You must submit your Aadhaar card, Police Clearance Certificate, and a Medical Fitness Certificate at least 25 days prior to the journey.
